Creating Even When You’re Tired

By Leo Babauta

Two members asked about writing when they’re tired … here’s the first question:

“How do you commit to your writing when you’re tired? I work 8-5 at a mostly mindless job I don’t like, and when I get home my mind is so tired.”

And here’s another member:

“I think getting up early is great but problem is resistance when I wake up at 5. I don’t want to get up and I give in and don’t get up. What can I do to make myself?”

So one person is tired at the end of a long day, and the other is tired when they try to wake up early. These are both difficult! Tiredness really affects your resolve to do anything uncomfortable — all you want to do is relax.

There are two good paths here:

  1. Self-compassion and changing the time of day. If you’re tired, sometimes it’s important to
  2. Self-compassion and work with your resistance.
