I recently interviewed my friend Katie Tallo, a Canadian filmmaker and writer who is about to launch her first novel, Dark August.
Katie is a very genuine, intelligent person who shared some incredible insights into her process that I really loved:
- How her creativity ebbs and flows, and how she works with that
- How she inhabits her characters
- Her insightful search for an agent, and why it was so important to her process
- What the writing & publishing process has been like for her
- How many drafts she has before her first reader (her daughter) gets to even look at it
- How she developed a thick skin through the collaborative filmmaking process
It’s a wonderfully insightful conversation for anyone who cares about creating. I highly recommend you give it a watch, above or here on Vimeo. Note: Password for the video is seachangerocks.
Katie is also hosting a “virtual kitchen party” on Tues. June 30 to launch her book — and you’re invited! Check out the invite here.
Or just pre-order her book — if you watched the video, I’m sure your curiosity is piqued.
