It’s time to get started with our Simplify Your Life Challenge! Here’s how to start.
Our focus for Week 1 is: Examine & reduce commitments. In this week, we’ll do an inventory of our work and personal commitments, and start to reduce them where possible, starting with the easy ones.
This week is about deliberating on what’s important in your life. It’s about reducing what has been filled to bursting, so that you have more space. It’s worth spending a little time each day to simplify a crowded life.
So here are more detailed instructions for this week:
- Simplify Sessions: Set aside short 10-minute sessions each day to spend a little time considering and simplifying your life.
- Spend 2 sessions listing commitments. The first two days (Monday & Tuesday, ideally), spend your sessions listing the commitments you have in your life. Your work commitments (projects, clients, goals, regular tasks each week or month) on the first day, then your personal commitments (house chores & projects, family commitments like taking your kids to soccer, other relationships, etc.) on the second day.
- Spend 2 sessions considering reductions. What commitments give you joy? Which ones are aligned with what’s most important to you? Which ones are the most meaningful commitments in your life? You might make a short list of the 4-5 things you care most about and want to commit to. Then list the rest: things that feel important but aren’t on your short list.
- Start to reduce the things not on your short list! One at a time, start to reduce the rest of the things that feel kinda important but aren’t on your list. Btw, if you don’t finish this by the end of the week, you can still do it for the rest of the month (and beyond).
