In this lesson, we discuss one of the most helpful skills you can develop this year — less discouragement, more encouragement!
- Advanced habit skill — requires awareness
- Habit of encouraging — you got this! Have fun with this! Encouraging thought patterns that help us to start the habit, stick with it, get back to it
- Encourage yourself to start again after a break — no big deal, just start again
- It’s an example of a mental skill that helps with habits that requires a decent degree of awareness
- You can encourage yourself before the habit
- And also during the habit, like an encouraging coach or teacher
- After you’re done — nice job, pat yourself on the back, a check mark, checking it off on an app, telling someone else, gratitude for how good it’s been to you, doing a dance
- A reminder or small visual object can remind you to do this mental skill of encouraging
- Notice when you’re discouraging yourself — I didn’t do the habit, I suck
- Turn it around — from discouraging to encouraging — it will do a lot for you
- Ask for help from your team or the community — get encouragement from others
This week:
- Practice the skill of encouraging yourself. What can I do to encourage myself today?
- Play with different ways to encourage yourself. Bring awareness to times when you can encourage yourself.
