The problem: When we procrastinate, we turn away from tasks (and other habits, like exercise and meditation) … this leads to not doing what we want to do in our lives, and feeling bad about ourselves.
So how do we shift this?
The opportunity: We can shift this habit of turning away with practice. Simply set up a practice of turning towards things, with harder and harder levels. For example, start with very small tasks, and turn towards this several times a day, and then increase the difficulty as you see success.
- We can also shift how we experience the task or habit:
- From danger and pain and discomfort
- To something to love, that is delightful, fun, adventure, play
- Practice viewing it in this new way
- Relax, enjoy, and find the deliciousness
- See if you can be drawn into it instead of feeling like avoiding
- What would it be like if we could let go of our unhelpful views of everything, and create new views?
